Corstorphine Guide

Corstorphine was originally a separate village on the outskirts of Edinburgh but with the Capitals expansion, it is now considered very much part of the City.  Old Corstorphine stood on a piece of dry land, between two lochs, the Gogar Loch and Corstorphine Loch, though both have now been drained.

Corstorphine is ideally situated for both the city bypass and also the West End of the city centre.  There’s a plethora of public transport with Edinburgh’s bus lanes ensuring only a 10 minute journey to get to the city centre along with the tram line a short walk away.  The area offers many attractions such as Edinburgh Zoo, The Gyle Shopping Centre and BT Murrayfield which hosts rugby internationals.  There are also many golf courses and public parks right on your doorstep so its easy to see why its so sought after by young professionals and family’s alike.

Notable Corstorphine residents include Olympic cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy and Jessie Chrystal Macmillan who was famous for being the first female science graduate from the University of Edinburgh.

Given the fact that Corstorphine was originally its own village, you will find a huge variety of property in the area from traditional tenement flats, large family homes to brand new build luxury flats and everything in between.

With the variety of property available and the large number of young professionals and family’s looking to move into the area, it’s no surprise that Corstorphine is a very attractive proposition for investors and landlords alike.

Rent values in the area are sitting at the top end of the Edinburgh average with four bed houses renting at close to £2000 per month while the one bedroom flats are fetching, on average, £750 per month.  Indeed, the majority of investor landlords have snapped up the two bed apartments that are seeing a great return of close to £1100 per month.
